GLORIA HODES
(Vita) has sung principal roles on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera, as well as the New York City, Seattle, and other regional opera companies. She was the ballet mistress Madame Giry in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in all three touring companies throughout the U.S. On Broadway she appeared in the original Tony Award-winning ME AND MY GIRL and played Duchess Maria in subsequent regional theatre productions. Off-Broadway she won the coveted OBIE and THEATRE WORLD AWARDS for her creation of Mr. Bertie in THE CLUB, directed by Tommy Tune. Her Julie in SHOW BOAT and Mother Abbess in THE SOUND OF MUSIC have received critical acclaim throughout the country, including the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Among a variety of other roles, she has played Maria in LEND ME A TENOR and was chosen by Pulitzer Prize winner William Bolcom to create the role of Buffy Buffington in his CASINO PARADISE. The renowned jazz-harpist composer Deborah Henson-Conant has created several chamber orchestra and cabaret works for Ms. Hodes. She has appeared in clubs on the West Coast and Caribbean Islands. She is the founder and executive director of MUSIC & MASQUE, a concert company based in New York. Her one woman show VINTAGE WINE was premiered at the Depot theatre last season.
