THEATERSOUNDS PLAYS THE PRICE
THE FIRST CLASSIC PLAY IN THE READING SERIES TO BE PRESENTED ON AUG 18

Kingston, NY – August 13, 2001: "Two brothers, one a policeman, the other a successful surgeon, meet again after an angry breakup many years before; the time has come to divide the family's possessions after the father's death. Grown men now, they think they have achieved the indifference to the betrayals of the past that maturity confers. But it all comes back..."

So Arthur Miller describes The Price, the first classic in the TheaterSounds reading series. "The theater of the imagination" will bring professional actors and directors to the Hudson Valley area to perform Miller’s play, which was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play during its original Broadway run in 1968, and for Best Revival in 2000.

"This is a great play to direct, and a great play for the series," says TheaterSounds Artistic Director Nicola Sheara, "Miller writes multi-dimensional characters that are not only engaging to the audience, but also exciting for the actors. It’s perfect for a reading because Miller’s language reveals the plot – much of the action of the play takes place in the dialogue. The characters come to realize their own subconscious motivations during the course of the play, and the audience gets to take that journey with them."

The Price is the second play in the series, following the world-premiere reading of Wilk & Gayle in July. TheaterSounds will continue to present a mix of new works and classics; the next play, performed in October, will be a new play.

"TheaterSounds allows people to experience a wide range of wonderful plays, new and old, performed by professional actors," says Sheara, "Because we use the currency of the audience's imagination instead of cash to build our sets, there is no limit to what TheaterSounds can present."

Arthur Miller’s The Price features Frank Girardeau*, Jack R. Marks*, John Michalski*, Deborah Savadge*, and Brian Smiar*, and is directed by Nicola Sheara.

TheaterSounds will present Arthur Mller’s The Price at 8pm on Saturday, August 18th at 8pm. Admission is free. The Community Center at UUCC is located at 320 Sawkill Road in Kingston, 1 mile North of Washington Ave, 1.5 miles South of Route 209. Call the UUCC at 845-331-2884.
